How can we define an IT service and what is its importance? As the name suggests, IT Service Management (ITSM)<\/a> combines policies, processes, and procedures with the goal of delivering a valuable service. But what is an IT service?<\/span><\/p>\r\n

At first, this question may seem more complicated than it seems, especially in IT, which has a variety of services.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

However, let’s consider a definition that I find quite interesting, from Gartner<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“IT services refers to the application of business and technical expertise to enable organizations in the creation, management and optimization of or access to information and business processes.”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\n

That being said, it is almost impossible to create an exact list of all existing types of services. An IT service can be a Firewall, Email, Business Intelligence, Cloud, among others.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

However, this Gartner definition tells us something important: the function of an IT service.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
